The library of the Cultural Insitute of Vojvodina's Slovaks opens wide the door to anyone interested in culture of Vojvodina's Slovaks and offers a rich list of titles in different languages and from different areas. Readers can get their hands on these books on a daily basis for its practical use and there are also those that hold out the most valuable artistic or professional work of Slovaks from so called Lowland and which constitute a large part of the wealth of the Institute.
The aim of the library is not only to offer better informativeness about Slovak national community in Vojvodina, as well as springs and services for local scientists, experts, artists and other citizens as well as help in education and research. Beside this it aims to collect, process and store all relevant written sources concerning the Vojvodina Slovaks.
Book fund consists of dictionaries, encyclopedias, linguistic manuals, literary works of Slovak writers from Vojvodina, critics, literary theory, monographs of villages and towns, as well as books on art, music, theater and film art, philosophy, ethics, architecture, religion, culture history, folk culture, journalism, cultural management and political science, further bibliographies, biographies, anthologies, etc.
Meaningful part of the fund are serial publications and non-book materials such as multimedia source, brochures, catalogs, posters, invitations, etc.
By the end of May 2015 in the library has been processed and preserved 2,087 monographs and 348 serial publications. The largest part of the books which arrived recently is diverse fiction, which is mostly donated by the Seminar library of the Department of Slovak Studies, which operates at the philosophical faculty of the University of Novi Sad. These are the titles of Vojvodina Slovak poetry and prose, anthologies, children's literature, but also literature of Slovak writers from Slovakia and worldwide, also literary criticism of Vojvodina Slovak Literature and Literary Theory. Books that were added to the library from different donors are from the fields of theater and music, memoirs of villages and towns, books of Serbian authors from the field of music and video art and some works of Serbian authors translated into Slovak language.
Periodicals that take place on the shelves of the library are: Hlas ľudu (Voice of the people), Vzlet (takeoff), Zornička (Morning star), Nový život (New Life), Rovina (Plane), Dolnozemský Slová (Lowland Slovak), Národný kalendár (National calendar), Pazovský kalendár (The calendar of Pazova), Čabiansky kalendár (The Čabian calendar), Slovenské pohľady (Slovak views) and others. There are also Serbian periodicals: NIN, Nova Misao (New thought), Interkulturalnost (Interculturalism), TFT, Muzički kodovi (Musical codes) and other simmilar.
The library has received a large proportion of magazines like New Life and Slovak views, and the missing numbers were added so they collate several years of these magazines.
Today, the library haves 2,125 monographs and 371 serial publications.
"The library is constantly being built through the purchase and exchange, but the largest number of titles obtained as a gift from institutions, associations and individuals, with which the institute cooperates successfully." - We read in the CIVS yearbook Lighthouse.
The library operates within the Informational, Documentational and Communicational Unit, which aims to carry out documentation also the traditional way, in addition to that to publish books, brochures, magazines, newspapers, compact discs and other publications, respectively, establish cooperation with similar research, educational, informational and documentational centers in the country and abroad.
Books are processed according to the Universal Decimal classification of an electronic program TnT Librarian plus, but so equally are registered physically.
The books can be borrowed and read by everyone interested.
