In the church calendars the start of New Year was not solved for a long time. In time when the church took over the julian calendar the New Year begun with the birth date of the Jesus Christ – that was in the beginning since January the 6th, later since the 4th Century on December 25th. In European countries many other dates were considered as the first days of the New Year. On the year 1582 the pope Grgur the 8th has chosen January the 1st to be the first day of the New Years beginning.

The New Years character has during many Centuries changed from the basics but the costum of wishing well in the New Year has stayed the same. The New Years day is beginning more and more to be a family day, spent with the loved ones.
