Ján Strakúšek was born in Kovacica in 1926 and finished five years of primary school. He married Katarina having a son Jan and daughters Katarina and Zuzana. Fighting in the Second World War he was wounded. After the war, he completed two sixmonths masonry courses in Belgrade. This enabled him to work as a construction worker and as an independent master builder. He began to paint doing a wall newspaper during the Second World War. Favorite painting motifs are from the village life, scenes from the Second World War, still life and portraits. Strakusek painted about 400 paintings and exhibited artwork at almost all “Kovacica October” events and many collective exhibitions at home and abroad.
