10. August 2015
On Thursday August 6th 2015 in CIVS an exhibition of portraits of meaningful personalities in Vojvodina Slovak culture was held.

On Thursday, August 6th, 2015, starting at 8 p.m. in the Cultural Institute of Vojvodina Slovaks within the 54th Slovak national celebrations there was held an exhibition of portraits of meaningful personalities in Vojvodina Slovak culture, painted by Pavel Čáni and Pavel Pop.

The exhibition's organizer Katarina Mosnáková-Bagľašová welcomed all present and explained the meaning and objective of the project, which started in 2011. Within the project 12 portraits of prominent figures were painted, including Ján Branislav Mičátek, Karol Miloslav Lehotský, Michal Milan Harminc, Michal Babinka, Paľo Bohuš, Vladimír Hurban Vladimírov, Jozef Podhradský, Leopold Branislav Abafi, Albert Martiš, Félix Kutlík, Juraj Tušiak and Zuzka Medveďová.

“We wish that this project continues to be continued and that we will present this exhibition in other galleries in Serbia and, of course, also abroad ", - said Mosnáková-Bagľašová and added that the aim of the project is also bringing into light the cultural history of famous personalities who were born in this area and whose activity is linked to the culture of Vojvodina. These personalities are important not only in our minority context, but also in the context of all Slovaks. Few of them were and are meaningful personalities even in Europe.

The importance of the project was noticed by an art critic and connoisseur of fine arts in Vojvodina, Sava Stepanov, who wrote a professional text about this collection of portraits which was published in the catalog, prepared for the occasion. By the words of Stepanov, the Institute has held many notable exhibitions and there have been published high quality monographs.

"This time we had an opportunity to visit an exhibition of portraits. Pop, who is a representative of the older generation of artists from Vojvodina has a rich and valuable continuity in his work, within which he created the graphic and paint paintings filled with the bonding process of reality and fantasy. "

Pavel Čáni painted portraits of Michal Babinka and Zuzka Medveďová and his approach is different from the approach of Pavel Pop. "His paintings consist of bold bright, coloristic and expressive tones," says art critic.

The expert commission, which annually decides which personalities will be painted on canvas was composed from: the directress of CIVS Milina Sklabinská; professor, doctor, historian Samuel Čelovský and an art critic and cultural activist Vladimir Valentík. Valentík also spoke, noting that this is an opportunity when there can be seen the results of the project, ie the 12 portraits that arose due to the initiative of Pavel Pop.

The atmosphere of the opening was enhanced by a pianist Marek Stupavský. The exhibition was officially opened by 12 reciters and actors who presented several quotes of each portrayed personality.

It was an interesting program, which once again highlighted the extraordinary artistic programs organized by the CIVS.

After the opening present in a pleasant atmosphere continued in talks.

This way the Cultural Institute of Vojvodina's Slovaks once again highlighted the importance of preserving the cultural heritage of the Slovaks.

Implementation of the project enabled the Office for Slovaks Living Abroad.
