The Festival of Slovak traditional songs called Meeting in the field of Pivnica is a international festival of singers - soloists. It was found in the year of 1966 and it is being held ever since, traditionally in the second half of January in a village called Pivnica.
The main goal of this festival is to keep, nourish and to archive the authentic Slovak folk songs. This festival is in the same time a competition. The performers are mostly the young’s who come from the villages where Slovaks live. In the past they came from all places where Slovaks lived in former Yugoslavia. Nowadays the singers come only from Serbia.
In the last years this festival has acquired an international character. Now besides the singers from Serbia, the content is more colorful due to the Slovak performers who come from Romania, Croatia, and Hungary. Before this festival there are many smaller festivals in every Slovak village and the two of the best singers go and represent their village on The Festival of Slovak traditional songs called The meeting in the field of Pivnica.
The vinners of this festival get the opportunity to tape the chosen song with the Radio Nový Sad orchester and that way they enrich sound recordings library of radio Nový Sad. Also an important fact about this festival is that those singers who have been singing for years, continue to work in their villages as art directors in many music components.
